Newton is best known for Newton Food Centre, the hawker landmark that anchors an unusually diverse restaurant scene running from Japanese and European to Chinese and Southeast Asian kitchens nearby. Prices trend high-end away from the hawker stalls, giving the area a split identity between street food and upscale dining. Japanese and European restaurants near Newton Food Centre round out one of Central Singapore's most varied dining pockets.
