Koyama is a lively, reasonably priced Japanese spot in central Edinburgh that wins with ramen, sushi, and strong family/kid options, but consistency and service can swing hard from excellent to frustrating.
Our take
Koyama delivers strong food quality with standout ramen, sushi, and gyoza that earn consistent praise, but inconsistent execution across visits prevents a higher grade. Service and setting are pleasant and characterful, though neither reaches exceptional levels, and variable attentiveness and knowledge keep the overall experience from approaching grade A territory.
One caveat: Some diners hit very uneven cooking, from salty broth to lukewarm mains and dry chicken.
