Noodle & Beer ChinatownC+?

27 Wardour St, London W1D 6PR, United Kingdom · Chinatown

A lively Chinatown noodle restaurant with excellent spicy noodles, generous signature beef dishes and warm service in many visits, but cramped seating, rushed-table complaints, opaque charges and a few serious food-safety reports warrant caution.

Our take

Noodle & Beer Chinatown delivers solid food quality with tender beef and chewy noodles that earn consistent praise, but inconsistent execution across visits and notable concerns about space comfort prevent a stronger grade. Service warmth and the atmospheric basement setting appeal to late-night diners, though unusual review patterns reduce confidence in the full assessment.

In more detail

Noodle & Beer Chinatown is a compact, high-energy Wardour Street stop where the open kitchen, Chinatown bustle and theatrical red basement create more atmosphere than the footprint suggests. Many diners describe warm, fast service and leave especially impressed by tender beef, chewy noodles and properly calibrated heat; one recurring impression is a meal that arrives quickly but still feels generous and memorable. The cooking is Sichuan-led and boldly contemporary rather than timid: chili oil, pickled greens, peanuts, offal, braised beef, seafood and cross-cultural touches such as laksa, rendang and miso-butter noodles all appear on the current menu. The braised beef-rib noodles are the safest first order, while spice-sensitive guests should ask clearly about heat. Service praise is plentiful, but not universal: detailed complaints describe cramped basement tables, rushed time limits, unclear charges and poor responses when dishes or requests went wrong. Families should approach with a little planning. The menu does include approachable fried rice, plain-ish noodle formats, fried chicken bites, dumplings and desserts, and one recent birthday party had a lovely experience with a baby. However, another family reported no high chairs and difficulty accommodating a buggy, while the small layout is repeatedly described as tight. It is better suited to adventurous older children than to a relaxed meal with a stroller or very young child.
