MetrographA-

7 Ludlow St, New York, NY 10002 · Bar, American restaurant, Movie theater · Chinatown

Metrograph is a stylish indie-cinema destination with a surprisingly serious upstairs food-and-drink program, but the whole experience can be undercut by uncomfortable seating and occasional service or event-noise mishaps.

Why this grade

Metrograph delivers A-grade performance as one of the Lower East Side's most distinctive cultural venues, where exceptional setting appeal and solid food quality combine to create a memorable night out. Service inconsistency and persistent seating comfort issues prevent a higher grade, though the upstairs bar and restaurant execute well enough for leisurely pre- or post-film socializing. This is a destination for the experience and atmosphere, not culinary ambition.

One caveat: Comfort is the biggest recurring complaint; several reviewers say the seats become painful on longer films or packed nights.
